Narrative of the Young Shepherd

At the center of the mesmerizing rolling fields, lived a boy named Shepherd. His being was mostly untarnished, simple, and honest. His main role here was essentially to care for his herd of rams.
Their soft bleating and the murmuring of the wind among the single tree on the peak were his main associates. Day in day, guarding his charges imbued in him a feeling of quiet fulfillment.
But, there were occasional moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would yearn for companionship. On one such day because of sheer tedium, the shepherd boy orchestrated a naughty plan.
Narratives of wild beasts hunting on sheep had been around for a while in the town. So, the boy opted to leveraged this fear and played a prank on the townsfolk.
One morning he raced into the village yelling “Wolf! There is a wolf preying on my sheep!” The scared villagers rushed up the hills to help but saw nothing threatening.
The boy laughed at the puzzle on their faces. This game continued for a few days more. But, one noon, a real wolf did charge at the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy raced for help, shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.
Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he returned to the town only to receive a lesson on honesty and the results of false alarms.
His tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the importance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the dangers of false alarms. Moreover, it highlights how trust once broken, is hard to earn back. It's a story as pertinent today as it was anciently.
